China Power Transformer Exports by Capacity

China's power transformer exports should be compared by capacity rather than described with one growth rate. The current snapshot separates two liquid dielectric transformer lines: 400 MVA ≤ handling capacity <500 MVA, and handling capacity ≥500 MVA.

Opposite annual directions within large transformers

In the audited release 2026-09-21T093840Z, August 2026 exports in the 400–<500 MVA line were USD 20,895,792, up 434.8% year on year. The ≥500 MVA line recorded USD 10,240,347, down 77.4%. The same-month growth gap was therefore about 512 percentage points on the USD basis.

Both lines nevertheless fell from July: the respective July values were USD 34,744,911 and USD 40,738,124. Opposite YoY directions do not mean that one product was accelerating month on month. Annual baselines, current dollar values and cumulative windows belong beside the headline percentages.

A secondary industry report may use RMB, a broader product family or a different extraction scope. Its growth rates cannot be copied into these USD tariff series. This page keeps the audited release and the displayed metric consistent.

Capacity boundaries matter

The first band includes exactly 400 MVA and excludes 500 MVA. The second includes exactly 500 MVA. These are separate Chinese eight-digit tariff lines within the broader liquid dielectric transformer family, not a comparison of every transformer exported by China.

Liquid dielectric transformers should not automatically be relabelled as every oil-filled transformer, and the remaining transformer headings should not all be called dry-type equipment. Match the published product description and classification year before assembling a sector total. The parent heading overlaps its children and must not be added to them.

Large projects can dominate a month

Pakistan and Romania accounted for the reported August value in the 400–<500 MVA line. Saudi Arabia and South Africa accounted for the ≥500 MVA line. This concentration is useful context: a small number of large equipment shipments can produce pronounced monthly changes.

Customs destinations do not identify project owners, electricity demand, order books or final installation sites. Shipment values cannot establish how many transformers were exported without verified quantities and units. A regional growth claim also needs an explicit country set; the product's global series cannot establish a North American or African trend.

Explore 400–<500 MVA transformers and ≥500 MVA transformers, then compare their current destinations. The clean-energy trade hub connects this equipment with copper wire and related grid products. End use remains a research question rather than an inference from a tariff code.
