Shipment weight Β· 2026-08
Read tonnes separately from the USD chart above. Other destinations equal the global total minus the United States; global and country series must not be added together.
| Destination | Tonnes | MoM |
|---|---|---|
| Global | 10,151.861 | -22.8% |
| United States | 2,767.354 | -53.7% |
| Other destinations | 7,384.507 | +2.8% |
| Measure | Contribution |
|---|---|
| Shipment weight | 106.79% |
| USD value | 93.18% |
The US shipment-weight change exceeds the global net change. Other destinations move in the opposite direction. This is an arithmetic contribution, not proof of a policy or demand cause.
Contribution = US monthly change Γ· global monthly change. Ratios are withheld when the global change is less than 1% of the larger monthly total, or either observation is unavailable. More than 100% means other markets partly offset the US movement.

The snapshot refreshes after a promoted release and site rebuild. The dated analysis below remains tied to its stated source period. USD values do not establish physical quantities or AI end use. Country series use complete, checksum-verified partner partitions reconciled to global USD totals. Missing partner rows remain unavailable; recorded zeroes remain zero. Partner previews state their own month; an omitted partner is not zero.
China's lithium iron phosphate exports can fall globally even while destinations outside the United States grow. The distinction becomes visible when the same product and months are split into global, US and other-destination observations, and when physical quantity is kept separate from export value.
The current tables and charts above refresh with the site's published trade release. The following interpretation is an August 2026 edition, checked on October 12 against release 2026-10-11T132915Z.
LFP exports: what the tariff line covers
Use China's published eight-digit product, Lithium Iron Phosphate β HS 28429040, for this analysis. The broader six-digit heading includes other inorganic salts and cannot stand in for LFP. This material belongs to cathode-material research; it is not the same statistical product as finished lithium-ion batteries, battery packs or electric vehicles.
The quantity series uses native customs kilograms, converted to tonnes by dividing by 1,000. Export value uses customs USD. Neither series establishes the number of batteries produced, the identity of a buyer or the eventual application of the material.
August 2026: the US decline exceeded the global decline
| Destination scope | July quantity, tonnes | August quantity, tonnes | Monthly change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global | 13,153.262 | 10,151.861 | β22.82% |
| United States | 5,972.529 | 2,767.354 | β53.67% |
| Other destinations | 7,180.733 | 7,384.507 | +2.84% |
US shipments fell by 3,205.175 tonnes, while the global total fell by 3,001.401 tonnes. Other destinations added 203.774 tonnes, partly offsetting the US movement. Dividing the US change by the global net change gives 106.79%.
This percentage is an arithmetic contribution to a net change. It does not mean the United States bought more than the global total, or accounted for more than 100% of exports. The denominator is the difference between two global monthly totals, not a market-size measure.
Within other destinations, Indonesia's shipment weight increased 114.22% to 1,554.400 tonnes and Japan's increased 68.01% to 1,197.686 tonnes. Those individual movements help explain the geographic shift, but one month's increase does not establish a durable replacement for US demand.
Dollar values tell a different story
| Destination scope | July USD | August USD | Monthly change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global | 119,792,729 | 88,147,334 | β26.42% |
| United States | 53,664,247 | 24,177,308 | β54.95% |
| Other destinations | 66,128,482 | 63,970,026 | β3.26% |
Other destinations shipped more weight but generated less export value. The US accounted for 93.18% of the global net value decline, rather than the 106.79% obtained from weight. A headline that says βother markets grewβ therefore needs to specify the metric.
Values divided by kilograms are statistical unit values, not prices for an identical material specification. Different product grades, contract terms and destination mixes can change the relationship between money and weight. These observations alone cannot identify which explanation caused the divergence.
How to monitor the next month
Compare the global total and the US observation for the same month, then subtract the US from the global total to obtain other destinations. The two destination groups are mutually exclusive; adding them reconstructs the global total. Adding the global series again would double-count exports.
The page withholds contribution ratios when the global net change is less than 1% of the larger monthly total. Small net movements can produce huge percentages even when the underlying country changes are modest. Missing country observations remain unavailable, rather than being replaced with zero.
