The snapshot refreshes after a promoted release and site rebuild. The dated analysis below remains tied to its stated source period. USD values do not establish physical quantities or AI end use. Partner previews state their own month; an omitted partner is not zero.
China's industrial robot industry needs three separate views: factory production, customs imports and customs exports. The dashboard above compares the two customs flows within HS 847950, in USD, and links their supplier and destination markets. The industrial robot output dataset provides the separate NBS production series.
Production growth and trade growth answer different questions
In its September 15 release on August 2026, the National Bureau of Statistics reported industrial robot output growth of 34.6% year on year, alongside robot reducer output growth of 11.4%. These are dated, source-reported production rates. They do not refresh when the customs snapshot changes.
NBS industrial production and GACC customs trade cover different statistical populations. A factory's output may serve domestic customers or export markets; customs imports may include equipment outside that production survey. Adding imports to output and subtracting exports does not establish domestic robot consumption.
Use the NBS source-reported comparable growth rate. Dividing two historical output levels can give a different result when the reporting population or historical series has changed. The published output dataset currently labels its unit as “current period”; that metadata needs clarification before combining it with customs shipment counts in a physical-volume dashboard.
Two customs flows, one declared product family
The audited trade release 2026-09-21T093840Z records August HS 847950 imports of USD 63,157,875 and exports of USD 69,138,037. Import value fell 7.2% YoY and export value fell 8.7%, while comparable January–August values rose 19.5% and 19.9%, respectively. The same-month net export value was USD 5,980,162; the import-to-export value ratio was about 0.91.
These observations establish a monthly value decline alongside cumulative value growth. They do not establish declining shipment counts or a three-series physical-volume divergence. The current snapshot preserves the metric distinction and can move to a later month independently of this dated analysis.
For the same release and month, Japan supplied 85.8% of recorded import value. Saudi Arabia was the leading export destination, with 16.2% of recorded export value. Country value shares describe the published product scope; they do not identify named manufacturers, installations or end users.
Read the family and its detailed tariff lines separately
HS 847950 is the industrial-robot family. The eight-digit residual line, HS 84795090, is only part of that family; its export growth cannot stand in for all industrial robots. Cooperative robots and other multiple-use industrial robots have separate detailed lines. Parent and child observations overlap and must not be summed.
The advanced-manufacturing hub connects those lines with intelligent bionic, cleaning and surgical robots. The 2026 robot classification guide explains why a new code cannot acquire a same-code prior-year history. Intelligent bionic robots are not a complete measure of humanoid robots.
Investigating a production–import–export divergence
A useful candidate compares three source-labelled, same-month YoY rates and asks whether positive and negative directions coexist with a spread exceeding 30 percentage points. Each rate still needs its own definition, unit, comparable baseline and meaningful absolute level. New tariff splits, missing observations and tiny trade bases require separate review.
Production growth should come from the NBS comparable rate, and trade-volume growth from verified customs quantities. USD trade growth must remain explicitly labelled as a different comparison. A candidate signals where to investigate; it does not establish import substitution, inventory accumulation or domestic demand.
Use the HS trade reading guide for coverage, then the hub's chart CSV and API documentation for defined product and country research. Request both flows, a classification year and a verified quantity unit when shipment counts are essential.
