The snapshot refreshes after a promoted release and site rebuild. The dated analysis below remains tied to its stated source period. USD values do not establish physical quantities or AI end use. Partner previews state their own month; an omitted partner is not zero.

China computer-parts exports reached $12.86 billion in August 2026, up 268.6% year on year and 10.9% from July. In the same month, the broader data-processing machines and units category recorded $12.09 billion, down 5.4% year on year. The striking change is in product composition: parts exports exceeded the equipment heading's monthly value.

This is a comparison of customs export values for two distinct classifications, not a count of computers or a measure of AI hardware sales. The current-release panel follows newly promoted data; this analysis uses August 2026 and its matching baselines.

Computer parts versus machines and units

HS 847330 computer parts and accessories covers parts and accessories of machines classified under heading 8471. HS 8471 data-processing equipment includes machines and units, alongside other products in its official description. Calling the whole heading “finished servers” would overstate what the classification tells us.

Export measure Computer parts, HS 847330 Machines and units, HS 8471
August 2025, USD billion 3.49 12.78
July 2026, USD billion 11.60 15.64
August 2026, USD billion 12.86 12.09
August YoY +268.6% −5.4%
August MoM +10.9% −22.7%
January–August 2026 YoY +198.3% +12.0%

The annual growth gap is 274.0 percentage points. Parts were approximately 1.06 times the equipment heading's August value. That ratio compares reported dollars, not the number of parts needed to build one machine.

The cumulative comparison prevents another misleading conclusion. Equipment exports fell in August against both baselines, but their January–August value was still 12.0% higher than a year earlier. This is a latest-month divergence, not evidence that equipment exports declined throughout the year.

Two strong months for parts

July parts exports were $11.60 billion, up 253.9% from July 2025. August added another $1.27 billion. The increase is therefore visible in two consecutive months, rather than depending on a single unusually timed shipment.

The path was not smooth: June fell below May before July and August recovered. Use the full monthly chart to distinguish sustained strength from an uninterrupted climb. Seasonal order timing, shipment schedules and the mix of components can all move monthly declared value.

Where China computer-parts exports went

August 2026 reported destination USD billion Share of HS 847330 exports
Hong Kong 6.02 46.8%
South Korea 2.20 17.1%
Mexico 0.90 7.0%
United States 0.83 6.5%
Malaysia 0.74 5.7%

Hong Kong and South Korea together represented 63.9% of the month's parts export value. These are customs destinations. They do not identify final consumers, named server manufacturers or where the parts are ultimately installed. Re-export and regional assembly networks can matter when interpreting partner shares.

To investigate South Korea or Mexico, start with the product's country breakdown rather than a country's all-goods total. The HS8 84733010 and HS8 84733090 pages provide national tariff detail. Their exact official descriptions matter; neither should be relabelled as an exclusively AI-server component basket.

Does this show booming China AI server exports?

It identifies a relevant computing supply-chain change. It does not establish its cause. Prices, component mix, processing trade, distribution and shipment timing may contribute to the dollar movement. Establishing AI demand requires additional product and end-use evidence.

The integrated-circuit export study examines another part of the electronics chain. ICs, computer parts and computing equipment are distinct customs selections; they should not become an invented AI market total. The advanced-manufacturing hub connects their charts and product routes.

Download and repeat the comparison

Use the hub's monthly chart CSV for the parts and equipment series, then open the product pages for partner detail. API documentation explains existing data access. A country-by-month research file should specify both codes, export flow, years and destinations; confirm available physical units before requesting quantity or unit-value comparisons.

FAQ

What HS code tracks China computer and server parts exports?

HS 847330 covers parts and accessories of heading 8471 machines. It is useful for server supply-chain research, but it does not isolate server parts from other computing applications.

Did all China computer exports fall in August 2026?

No. The broad HS 8471 heading fell 5.4% year on year, while HS 847330 parts rose 268.6%. January–August exports increased for both selections.
