The snapshot refreshes after a promoted release and site rebuild. The dated analysis below remains tied to its stated source period. USD values do not establish physical quantities or AI end use. Country series use complete, checksum-verified partner partitions reconciled to global USD totals. Missing partner rows remain unavailable; recorded zeroes remain zero. Partner previews state their own month; an omitted partner is not zero.

China's chromium ore imports, often searched as chromite imports, can grow overall while suppliers move in different monthly directions. The current snapshot compares global import value with South Africa and Türkiye as separate USD series.

Supplier growth is different from supplier size

In the audited release 2026-09-21T093840Z, August 2026 chromium ore imports were USD 664,065,786, up 21.4% year on year. South Africa supplied USD 516,162,392, representing 77.7% of monthly import value, while Türkiye supplied USD 46,554,217, or 7.0%.

Türkiye's value grew 154.7% year on year, compared with 16.1% for South Africa. Its July value was USD 34,274,437, while South Africa's July value was USD 620,789,504. The faster-growing supplier remained much smaller in absolute terms. Keeping both the percentage and the dollar change prevents a small-base headline from concealing the main source of exposure.

These are customs value shares. They differ from shipment-weight shares, and neither measurement identifies contained chromium. A reported weight concentration near 80% must not be substituted for the value share shown here.

Read month, year and cumulative window together

The monthly table shows the latest month's YoY and MoM comparisons alongside cumulative growth. YTD requires every January-to-reference-month observation in both years. One strong supplier month does not establish permanent diversification, and a month of lower total imports can coexist with higher annual cumulative imports.

Country curves come from all four checksum-verified partner partitions for each covered month, reconciled to the global product total. Missing country records remain unavailable; an explicit recorded zero remains zero. The leading-supplier table is a preview rather than the source for inferring absent suppliers.

Chromium ore is a product scope, not a mine list

The published chromium ore tariff line covers ores and concentrates. It does not identify individual mines, suppliers, grades or end customers. Differences in origin mix may reflect shipping schedules, product quality, prices or processing demand; the customs series alone does not determine which explanation applies.

For a repeatable study, keep the source release, classification year, flow, period and unit attached to each observation. Request quantity with its declared physical unit before calculating an implied value per tonne. Customs unit value is not a market spot price.
